Strasman, working with Planmac Engineering Inc, undertook a feasibility
study for Metrolinx to assess the potential expansion of Metrolinx’s existing
Fortecon Maintenance Facility to meet future maintenance and operations
demands created by the expanding Regional Express Rail (RER) infrastructure
within east GTA.
The purpose of the study was to quantify the requirements for a new facility
through data collection, stakeholder consultation, needs assessment, and
options analysis and to determine if the existing Fortecon Facility location was suitable for the new or expanded maintenance and operations facility.
Strasman reviewed the existing conditions, consulted with stakeholders, undertook an analysis of space needs and staffing requirements, assessed recommended travel-time analysis for locating a proposed new site and facility, and developed Conceptual Diagrams that illustrated the facility and site organization. The study determined that
the existing Fortecon site was suitable to accommodate a new, expanded facility
in a variety of configurations to address evolving program priorities.
