The proposed Waterfront LRT East – Union Station to Queens Quay Link (The Link) will create and improve important connections within Toronto’s Waterfront Transit Strategy and unlocks future transit service to the revitalized public space at the Portlands. The new streetcar route provides new and improved infrastructure to expand streetcar service along the waterfront through an underground section from Union Station to Queens Quay, which includes the Union Station Loop, the Queens Quay Station, and a new pedestrian tunnel from Queens Quay to Harbour Square. The design of The Link recognizes that the project is a not only a connection between vibrant civic spaces but an extension of this important urban realm. The design creates and extends connections within the surrounding community as well as with other LRT and transit projects in the area, meets the demand for an improved passenger experience, and engages with riders and the public through memorable spaces and moments of interest.
