The Waterdown Recreation Center is a 40,000 sf recreation facility featuring an indoor pool, gymnasium and fitness facilities. The building’s perforated, corrugated cladding is meant to recall the walls of the nearby geologic landmark the Clappison Cut, while its softened, gently curved shapes are reminiscent of wintertime snow drifts. A generously sized entry hall opens onto the large covered plaza which acts as a event space for the town. The facility also features an outdoor water feature which doubles as a skating rink during winter months.
The deliverables consisted of an assessment of existing site conditions, preliminary building program and space planning, conceptual design and rendering, and Class D cost estimates for the three site locations identified by the City.
