The Warden Station redevelopment is an important part of a larger revitalization of the area at Warden and St Clair Aves, which, when completed, will see the new Transit Hub, CreateTO mixed-income housing in the former TTC commuter parking lot, and revitalized park and public realm spaces near Taylor Massey Creek.
The existing bus and subway hub is a major transfer point on Line 2 and was originally built as part of the major expansion of Toronto’s subway network in the 1960s. TTC sought to redevelop the station to create a modern station with full accessibility, create easier passenger access between subway station, PPUDO and bus terminal, and maximize the use of the property.

SAI are the lead architects for the revitalized Warden Station. The facility is designed to ensure full compliance with AODA / TTC’s Easier Access program by including elevators and reconfiguring bus bays to facilitate easy and barrier-free bus-to-bus transfers. SAI’s design also looked for interventions that would improve the customer experience by optimizing personnel and vehicle flows through the station, creating an intuitive alignment of the bus platform, bus concourse, subway platform, subway concourse and PPUDO, and ensuring ample access to natural light. The design also features integrating wave shapes on the roof to respond to the internal height profiling and provide location for sustainable features such as green roofs.
The project will be implemented in stages, beginning with a new accessible entrance with elevators linking between the entrance, concourse, and subway platform levels. Replacement of the existing bus terminal with a new accessible bus terminal and concourse connecting into the existing station will follow. The station is intended to remain operational throughout the redevelopment.
